A really cool Wi-Fi electric bicycle
Here at AU, a company called Pi Mobility showcased its new “Pi-cycle” electric bike. The Pi-bike uses an arch-based structural design, which lets wireless technogies easily be integrated into it. (The old “Y” shaped structure was too cumbersome.) The CEO says the bike was developed in Inventor 3D. the bike produces zero sound, uses zero gas, and has Wi-Fi capabilities that ensure maintenance stays up-to-date.

Sorry- but it’s not at all clear WTF WiFi would be doing in a bicycle. This says something about “ensure maintenance stays up-to-date”- but this post fundimentally seems to miss explaining what a WiFi bicycle is, or is supposed to do. Nor is there a link to any additional (explanatory) information. Sorry- totally lost reading this…

Pi Mobility uses a proprietary embedded WiFi-based technology to access and monitor the performance of every Pi Cycle. As long as the bike is within the proximity of a WiFi network, the company can remotely analyze battery charging history, battery cycle life, overall battery pack performance, range per charge, speed, distance, and, at a user’s request, location in the event of a theft. The Pi Cycle can also communicate speed, distance, range, charge level, efficiency, cadence, mapping, direction of travel, and ambient temperature directly to a user’s smart phone. The smart phone interface also includes USB keyless ignition. Riders without a smart phone can take advantage of Pi Mobility’s optional fully synchronized iPOD Touch. An enhanced smart phone app called Pi Q will be available through Apple and Android in early Spring 2011.
